Throughout my life I have always been inspired by construction and development. Combining these different experiences with design to produce aesthetically pleasing pieces of 3-dimensional work has been a whole new challenge. Although I am a planner, I enjoy creating my artwork for the thrill of surprise and challenge that usually occurs during the sculpting process. This element of surprise I faced while creating my sculpture has turned into a world in which I feel creative and expressive. Who knew a day full of problem solving would be the type of day that keeps me coming back for more.
My current artwork is clean and precise yet has a continuous flow keeping the viewer interested. During creation, whether the process is additive or subtractive, my aim is to grab the viewers’ attention through the execution of each piece’s detail. Upon looking back at much of my work, repetition is a characteristic that a majority of my sculptures express. The repetition of contrasting textures, folding forms and organic carvings are elements in each of my pieces. Wood and steel, being very different materials, embody these recurring principles of design uniting them as a reflection of my thought process and planning. I have taken my methods of design to make each one of my pieces echo repetition in a different way.
